Gen 1:5 | God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. |
I see a slight possibility of matter being old, since the earth is talked about in a way that doesn't necessarily fit into this first day of creation, but light and everything mentioned afterwards is either young, or it compromises virtually all statements regarding the creation and fall of man. The simplest statement of this contradiction is "creation teaches that by man came death, while evolution teaches that by death came man" There are many other problems with reconciling evolution and the Bible, but this is the most simple and also the most important since it is Adam's fall that explains how a just and loving God can be the creator of this now evil and unjust world.
